Judith Davey

Judith Davey has extensive experience of safeguarding from a chief executive, senior leader and trustee perspective. Judith is Chief Executive of The Advocacy Project. Before this, she was Director of People, Performance & Accountability and Deputy CEO for ActionAid, which included responsibility for safeguarding. Judith has held numerous governance positions, including Co-chair of British Overseas NGOs (BOND) Transparency Group, Co-chair of Women in Public Policy, Chair of the Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act Committee and Hospital Managers Committee, Chair of the Board of Trustees of EDP drug and alcohol charity.

Judith has led international safeguarding investigations. She is currently on the Safeguarding Adults Board for the London Borough of Hackney, and is also member of a Safeguarding Adults Review panel. Judith publishes widely on safeguarding (and particularly on prevention), and is often asked to speak at conferences about the innovative work that The Advocacy Project does in this area.

A values-based leader, Judith’s commitment to staff development is central to her leadership of organisational change. She is a passionate and skilled communicator, with a track record in developing learning programmes. She was  commissioned by the Institute of Directors and the University of Exeter’s Centre for Leadership Studies to design and deliver their director development programme. She has trained UK and international audiences on the subject of good governance, given guest lectures on governance and leadership at the Cass Centre for Charity Effectiveness, and on social marketing at the University of Exeter’s MBA programme.

Judith holds Certificates in Delivering Organisational Change and Strategic Leadership and Management of Change from Exeter University,  and the Certificate in Governance and Leadership from Harvard Kennedy School. She is a proud mum, feminist, and curious person who loves to know about the world (she’s studied all sorts of subjects, including canine psychology and genetics).
