First in New Lunchtime Lecture Series Explores How Advocacy Connects with Mental Health, Food Poverty and Community Empowerment
We are delighted to confirm that our first lecture in the new regular lunchtime lecture series is being led by Alicia Weston, Founder and CEO of food equality charity ‘Bags of Taste’.
This will be a thought-provoking lunchtime conversation exploring the links between food, mental health, confidence and personal agency. Hosted by Ketan Sheth, known for his work supporting the most vulnerable people in his community, with the values of equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of his efforts, this timely discussion will examine what it really means to empower people to shape their own lives and be heard.
Drawing on more than a decade of work supporting people facing poverty, isolation, disability and poor mental health, Alicia will share how Bags of Taste’s innovative home-cooking programmes help people build confidence, improve wellbeing and regain a sense of control over everyday life. What begins with food often becomes something much bigger: renewed self-belief, stronger mental resilience and the confidence to speak up for oneself.

This event will also highlight the shared values between The Advocacy Project and Bags of Taste – two organisations committed to ensuring that people who are too often excluded from decision-making are supported not only to receive help, but to exercise choice, influence and agency in their own lives. At a time when conversations around mental health, inequality and community voice are more urgent than ever, this promises to be an inspiring and relevant discussion about dignity, participation and the power of practical support to create lasting change.
