Accessible Health

Thanks to funding from the Bailey Thomas Charitable Fund, The Advocacy Project is delighted to launch three new accessible health information videos, designed to help people with learning disabilities better understand menopause, diabetes and Annual Health Checks.

Developed in response to direct feedback from people with learning disabilities, the videos aim to make important health information easier to understand, support informed decision-making and encourage people to take an active role in their health and wellbeing. The resources form part of our ongoing work to address health inequalities and improve access to information, services and support.

Through workshops, awareness sessions and consultations across Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster, people with learning disabilities shared their experiences, identified gaps in knowledge and told us what information would help them most. Their insights have shaped the content of all three videos, ensuring the resources are relevant, practical and accessible.

Using Easy Read information, pictures, objects of reference and accessible language, our team created welcoming spaces where people could learn about health topics, share their experiences and ask questions.

Listening and Learning Together

Before developing the videos, we worked directly with people with learning disabilities through a series of awareness and consultation sessions held in community settings that participants regularly access.

The feedback gathered through these sessions helped shape the content and focus of the new video resources, ensuring they respond to the real information needs of people with learning disabilities. Videos were designed and produced by Chocolate Films, a UK-based social enterprise and video production company that works extensively with individuals who have learning disabilities, autism, and other neurodiverse needs.

Videos were made on the following topics:

With thanks to the 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust, we also have funds set aside for the promotion of these videos in the community, helping us target our outreach to the right audience.
