Expert voices

At The Advocacy Project, we believe that the people who use our services should be at the heart of everything we do. Our Service User Council is one of the key ways we make this happen.

The Council brings together people with lived experience from across our projects – in advocacy, user involvement, and Healthwatch – to share their views, ideas and experiences. Council members work together to influence how The Advocacy Project is run and to make sure the voices of people who use our services are heard right at the top of the organisation.

One of the reasons [members of the council] feel so passionately about the advocacy project, is that it helps people like us. We want that help to be of the highest calibre – that’s why we make so much effort, and ask ourselves to do as much as we possibly can do for The Advocacy Project.

Making a difference

The Council acts as a direct link between people who use our services and our Board of Trustees. This means that what matters most to people with lived experience shapes our decisions, our priorities, and how we deliver our work.

Being part of the Council is also a chance for members to speak up and make a difference, get involved in projects that interest them, and develop new skills and confidence along the way.

The Council meets regularly throughout the year to discuss progress, share feedback, and prepare for upcoming Board meetings. Each meeting helps ensure that user voice remains a driving force behind The Advocacy Project’s work.
