About this service

Our Speak Up group in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea supports people with learning disabilities to have a voice, share their experiences, and influence local services. Our Big Voice members help people speak up for themselves through:

  • Self-advocacy and consultation groups for people with learning disabilities (PLD)
  • Presentations, training and mystery shopping to improve services.
  • Information on voting and elections, transport campaigns like ‘Please offer me a seat‘, and co-production of NHS NWL Easy Read ‘Know Diabetes’ web pages.

Big Voice and It’s My Life are important for us and the people we are helping.

Learning Disability Service User Reps

Many of our Big Voice members are also Service User Representatives, who play a vital role in ensuring people’s voices shape decisions that affect their lives.

They are:

  • Active members of local Health and Social Care Focus Groups
  • Partners with senior council and health professionals.

Our Reps help to:

  • Co-produce the Bi-borough Learning Disability Strategy
  • Sit on local health and care boards
  • Improve access to employment and training opportunities
  • Support fair and inclusive recruitment, including interviewing staff
  • Deliver training and quality-check Easy Read resources.
