Lunchtime lectures

Because change starts with conversation, collaboration and shared understanding.

When services are under pressure, voice matters more than ever

Across the UK, recent headlines are painting a clear picture of a system under strain.

From disruption to NHS services and growing waiting lists, to concerns about access to essential support like continence care, and ongoing gaps in accessible communication – the message is clear: when services are stretched, people’s experiences can be too easily overlooked.

At the same time, we are seeing renewed attention on how decisions are made – who is involved, whose voices are heard, and how clearly information is shared with the people most affected.

Advocacy, co-production and accessible communication are not ‘nice to haves’ – they’re essential.

When we come together as equal partners, we create solutions that are more relevant, more effective, and more sustainable.

Research consistently shows that these approaches improve both experiences of care and real-world outcomes.

This series is an opportunity to spark the conversations that lead to that kind of change.”

In times of pressure, it’s easy for voices to be lost

“It’s such a relief just to know there is someone to talk to”

What links these stories is not just pressure on services, it’s the risk that people’s voices are lost within that pressure.

  • Are people getting information in ways they can understand?
  • Are lived experiences shaping decisions about care and support?
  • Are communities meaningfully involved in redesigning services?

Because when systems are under strain, there’s a temptation to move faster, centralise decisions and reduce engagement. But, in reality, the opposite is needed.

Making sure people are heard – clearly, accessibly and meaningfully – becomes even more critical.

Creating space to come together

That’s why we’re launching our new Lunchtime Lecture Series.

It’s about creating a free, open platform where people can:

  • Share insight and lived experience
  • Raise awareness of the issues that matter
  • Explore ideas and approaches to advocacy and co-production
  • Learn from each other across sectors and communities

We’d love you to be involved

We want to hear from a wide range of voices, including:

  • People with lived experience
  • Practictioners and professionals
  • Advocates and campaigners
  • Researchers and thinkers

Because we know that voice isn’t an add-on to services – it’s the foundation of better ones.

Whether you would like to be a speaker or have an issue you would really like us to discuss, email comms@advocacyproject.org.uk to find out more about how to get involved.
