About this service
Older People’s Voice (OPV) is a vibrant community of older people in Westminster who come together to share their experiences, raise issues that matter, and influence the services that affect their lives.
Run by The Advocacy Project as part of our User Involvement work, OPV gives older people a platform to make their voices heard by commissioners and service providers who plan and deliver health and social care across the borough.
It’s easy to feel invisible when you’re old. This group gives me a chance to feel heard.

Breaking down barriers
We know that communication barriers often prevent older people from accessing the support they deserve. Through OPV, we create spaces where everyone – whatever their communication style – can take part, share their views and help shape fairer, more inclusive services.
A friendly and active community
Being part of Older People’s Voice isn’t just about influencing change – it’s also about connection. Members enjoy lively discussions, meet new people, and share laughter – friendships often form naturally, and there’s a real sense of belonging and shared purpose.
You don’t need any special experience, just an interest in helping shape services for older adults and a willingness to share your thoughts. Whether you’re passionate about a particular issue or simply want to be part of something meaningful, OPV is a welcoming place to start.
What our volunteers do
Members of Older People’s Voice are active partners in improving services for older adults. They:
- Review documents and materials
- Design survey questionnaires
- Conduct interviews with other older people
- Edit reports
- Meet commissioners and service providers to influence change
- Evaluate services
- Help others make informed decisions on topics such as scams, hoarding, nutrition and the Care Act 2014
Making a difference
Older People’s Voice has helped shape local policy and services in many ways, including:
- Contributing to the Adult Social Care Prevention Strategy 2025–2030
- Influencing Westminster’s Extra Care Housing options
Supporting residents during the BT Digital Landline Switchover - Helping shape council safeguarding policy
- Improved accessibility: A member’s campaign on the Accessibility Information Standard led Imperial Trust to introduce BT Relay UK telephone lines, ensuring better communication access for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or unable to use a smartphone.
Lived Experience Forum
In partnership with Mental Health Voice, the Lived Experience Forum brings together older people who have experienced mental health challenges. Members meet quarterly with commissioners and service providers to share feedback, celebrate good practice, and suggest improvements to mental health services.
The older you get, the more you value a project made for your age group… A tied bundle is stronger than a single stick.
